Hi Stacey–
The title of this post is sort of a play on “Nintendo 64.” I say “sort of” because there’s no joke really, more an allusion. A joke would require some kind of commonality or pattern–between the Nintendo and the Alice. The 64, it means something to the Nintendo, but what would it mean to Alice? There’s that Beatles song, which I’m sure is going to sound terrifying to me some day, namely on my 64th birthday.
I actually had a title for this blog post. But then the 64 threw me, and now I’ve written a whole paragraph about it… I better follow the writing. But, whatever, the title was going to be: Magic Magnet.
I’ve written a little about this phenomenon before. How if I have a super power, I think it’s a magic magnet? I wrote around it in this post, from just about a year ago. The coincidences that have plagued my life, specifically my artistic life.
Recently, I have been asked to write a theme song for an influencer. But not just any influencer, the, like, one that keeps showing up on my feed. I got a pop culture tattoo on my thigh when I was a teacher in Chicago. 9 years later, one of my favorite actors from that film is producing my play and comments on said tattoo casually during rehearsal. He doesn’t realize it is an homage! The Magic Magnet strikes again!
Why did Lucy Dacus show up in the same Thai restaurant as me the very week I listened to her album? An actor mentioned an old TV show. She was disappointed when I told her I don’t watch it. I just dabbled with the first season, a very long time ago. I remember thinking I mainly liked one character, the zany girl. Today the actor who played the zany girl followed me on Instagram. Don’t know her, never met.
One could argue these are all signs.
xoxo
Alice
