not the 1975 (65)

Hi Stacey–

Listening to Knox because I’m feeling so high school right now. I’m immediately calm when I get to do this: blog on the ground while eating something really delicious and bopping to music. I time travel back to being 14, which, I know I’ve discussed before, was my Most Me Year.

Ugh, I should hyperlink some examples of previous posts about being 14. I should also go back and reread them, as to not waste your time and repeat myself. …But if we were IRL I would totally be repeating myself over the years. So would you. That’s human. People don’t retain everything on the first listen. Even if they did, a second listen brings something new. A third listen years later, something else entirely. SO I apologize if I repeat myself, kind of.

Freshman year of high school is when I established, through basic path-choosing, what kind of life I was drawn to, what kind of people, what kind of ways I’d like to spend my time.

I loved the fall musical for the community and the social change aspect (lol got so into revolution politics). I enjoyed football games where I’d see the “regular” kids from, like, the cafeteria. In afternoon class block I saw my middle school honors buddies. Choir girls in the day. Speech became my world. The art, establishing my voice, my ability to speak, confidence, and basic hygiene to be completely honest. After school I’d go to Patti’s house where conglomerations of band/other town/artsy boys/nail polish girlies started gathering. Those bad chicks across the way. I did an audition for the spring play with an original monologue using Edgar Allen Poe poems to discuss how much I wanted to be the prop master, which sounds so stupid, but would you believe it killed! And my coaches told me they would put me in the event Original Comedy next year. I’d been floundering in Impromptu. I began best friends with the captain of the team and she and I schemed all summer, even getting hermit crabs. I loved English class with the bossy teacher and weirdly enjoyed swimming and how I’d eat a Kit Kat afterward but burp a lot because of the chlorine. There’s lots more. But mostly–

Mostly I loved my blog. I just loved blogging so very much. From the moment it was A Thing. I wanted to blog. I’ve never taken my blogs super seriously, but this is the medium I’ve dedicated most of my life to. And, you know what, in some ways I’ll always love it the most.

Thanks for listening. I had deeper things to say, but I ran out of time. Open to signs.

xoxo

Alice
