Hi Stacey–
Thinking about the post-chorus of my favorite Lady Gaga song this morning. The part where she sings,
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl bad
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl mad
Absolute brilliance in the poppiest wrapper. “You” (patriarchy/society/anyone) love a good girl. But you love her so much, or, so badly, she becomes “bad.” And then, well, it’s only ever a matter of time before a bad girl gets mad.
I’ll never be over how we use the same word for an angry or insane woman.
I love the tiny bridge too. Despite Stefani rhyming “real” with “real.”
That girl in your head ain’t real
How bad do you want me, for real? (Oh)
Because absolutely. What girl is the girl in your head? I don’t even think I’m the girl in my head.
Honestly, Stacey, you’d know better than I do.
xoxo
Alice
